February 4, 2007

Justin has been moved from the wonderful 3rd floor, to The Quinny Rehab. on the 5th floor. Everyone on both floors have been GREAT! We miss you 3rd floor.
Justin got to have real food last Thursday night. His liquids have to be thickened so he got to get his Dr. Pepper he has been waiting for.(When he takes a drink he says"Oh...That's so good.)He still can only have little bits of water. He loves eating every meal, and usually eats every single thing but the veggies.(He hates broccoli and peas).
He is just so happy all the time, you can see his eyes sparkle when he smiles. He loves to joke with people and has a great sense of humor. He really enjoys when family and his friends come to see him, he doesn't want them to leave. He wants to arm wrestle everyone who walks in the door, so he can show them just how strong he is getting. He also likes to inform everyone that he does 50 crunches every morning and then shows them he is getting a "Six-Pack".
He does therapy three hours everyday during the week and even some Sundays.
He shows improvement even if it's a little everyday. He loves to talk to everyone that comes in his room. He even is playing card games with his nurses aids from the 3rd floor who come to visit. He spent 3 months on that floor. They became a second family to all of us. They were wonderful. Christy his aid was the first person he started to respond to, now she plays card games with him.
His mom got to see him push with his left leg for the first time in therapy on Saturday 2-3-07. He is talking more and much faster and clearer. My mom still prays for him that he will start moving his left arm & hand, he is really struggling with relaxing them.
He loves watching CMT everyday and calls family members to talk if there is no one else in the room with him. He likes to call his mom early in mornings to ask when she is coming up. He also likes to call his "favorite sister" and his dad, then tell them to send someone up to hang out with him. He called his sister on her birthday and sang Happy Birthday to her. He has so many loving family members and friends who continually visit him and keep him smiling. His mom goes up every Thursday night and leaves Sundays, and says it is getting harder & harder to leave him.
He goes to church every Sunday and can take the sacrament now, he is even singing. He wanted to go up and bare his testimony this last Sunday. He is so perceptive of everything and everyone around him, he is just amazing. He makes his mom laugh every time she is with him. He keeps asking when does he get to come home. His mom tells him as soon as he gets stronger and can help do more things for himself. He also asks "Why am I here", and "What happened to me"? Some days he seems to understand, he knows he was in an accident on the Harley, however doesn't remember it or much more before.
He tells his mom everyday how much he loves her and that she is the Best Mom ever. She tells him that he is the best son ever, and that he has to stay strong and work hard to get better and then that makes his mom strong. Strong enough to help him get through all of this.
We want to thank all of you who have wrote comments to Justin and his family. We love to read them and we read them to him. So please keep them coming, it helps all of us keep going!!!

We are happy to hear of Justins progress. We like this web site.
We can relate to being able to taste real food again. After our auto accident. Maurine had a trackyotomy and breathing tube inserted. When the breathing tube was removed and after passing a breathing test she was able to taste real food again and it was good even if it was pureed. She was limited to what she could eat. A therapist friend would sneak in a cup of vanilla ice cream. Maurine said it tasted soooo good.
We are praying for Justin and your Mom and Amber and all your family.
Love Maurine and Wayne Ward
