Justin is making amazing progress! He has been making sentences, trying to climb out of bed (with his good arm and leg), plays thumb wars, does hand shakes with his buddies, and tells you to move back
or go away.
He is still receiving physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and respiratory therapy. He continues to gain control and movement in his limbs. Tuft has been doing well in therapy. He is getting better at holding his head up and is doing well to use his core to sit up. His bones are healing well. Every day for 15-20 minutes Justin is wheeled down the hall and to the lobby where he can look out the window at downtown Salt Lake City. Justin’s family often participate in therapy. His nervous system seems to be kicking into gear as well. His tracheotomy has been removed. Justin is able to swallow applesauce and pudding. He really wants water or lemonade to drink, however he hasn't been cleared to eat or drink yet, but we hope it's soon. His vocal cords are healthy and his lungs sound great. He’s got a long way to go but he is doing it. Fortunately, he was in great shape before thanks to him not eating fries nor drinking soda pop (ha-ha) and Kristin, his running partner.
Justin is responding emotionally as well. He is probably feeling a flood of emotions. Doctors are taking this into consideration- that all aspects of Justin’s health are accounted for.
In a couple of weeks a full-body scan will be done. In 4 months Justin will again undergo surgery to fix his jaw.
The care Justin is receiving at the Salt Lake Regional Medical Center/Promise Speciality Hospital is incredible. The Doctors, Nurses and Nurses’ Aides are very attentive to Justin. Doctors are enthusiastic toward the progress he has made and toward future progress.
Justin is continually working to strengthen his mind and body. He would always tell his family “Mind over Matter” and he is definitely holding true to this saying. Justin is surrounded by loving friends and family that live not only in the Salt Lake CIty area but outside as well.
Thanks so much for all the love and support. Tuft has great friends and family. We love you all. - Amber
Thank you for your continued thoughts and prayers

Kim it was nice to see you during Christmas. You are an amazing mother!
Justin and Kim we love you- and we are praying for you. The last time that I went to see him was the day that I got married. When I saw him and he acknnowledged me it was tough to not let my emotions get to me. -I felt love for Justin and I wish that I could have told him that. I hate that I mask it because of the male stigma (I'm not supposed to express). I want you guys to know that I love you. I should be telling you in person but I don't know what would happen. I realized through all of this that it is important to let people that you love -know that you do.
Love yah Jed (inside joke with justin).
Me and my family were very, very sad about what happend to my uncle Justin. One day when i was at school my teacher had asked the class to write a story. She said that we could write about anything we wanted and when we were finished we would share it to the class. I wrote about my uncle Justin and how he got in the accident i showed my teacher my story before i read it to the class. When i was writing i was about to cry because i had only gone to see him once because we were so busy. I read it to the class and they helped me get through this and now that he is doing better i don't have to worry as much but i still do worry because i mostly only get the little details about whats going on but if someone tells me a little detail then i try to figure out what he has been doing. Since i moved to st. george it feels like something is missing and it seems to me like it is Justin. I love Justin so much and i am glad he is doing so much better. Love, Madie.
